5 Tips To Make It All Happen

This is for all of the readers who work full-time and are building their personal business on the side, keep going and never give up!

I hear so many women and men say I don’t have enough time. Heck, I’ve told myself that countless amount of times. A year ago, I was working full-time, had a business with a friend and had a personal goal to write a book. All at the same. Some days I wanted to quit. Some days I was frustrated of having to juggle different people’s schedules. Some days I doubted why I was doing what I was doing. I didn’t quit, I made it happen!

I wrote my manuscript start to finish in 3 months. In the midst of that my business partner and I held our first event with a turn out of 70 people. And I still, to this day, am at my full-time job.

So how did I do it? What I had to do first is become aware of was how I was spending each hour of my day. I had to take control of my schedule and say no to anything that wasn’t in alignment with what I wanted to achieve. So lots of sacrifices!

These are five steps for achieving any goal you have no matter what you are juggling!

 

  1. What do you want?

This truly is number one and something you cannot skip. Identify what it is you want in life, in the next year, 5 years and 10 years. The most useful tool that I have personally used is vision boards. Vision boards are powerful! Cut up pictures of everything and anything you want. Some people create a vision board for the year, I personally have one for life. I use a cork board and pins so I can change it very easily. Keep this in front of you at ALL times! Be sure you can start and end your day with a visual of what you want!

After you really take some time to yourself to think about what you want, places you want to travel to, things you want to accomplish let’s figure out where you want to begin.

 

  1. What is on your top priority list?

Now that you have a jam packed vision board it’s important to identify what is top priority for you. I truly believe in not taking time for granted. I ask myself, if I were to die in say 3 months and feel fulfilled, what is a must do? (I don’t mean to get so serious but it’s what get me into gear) I want to travel the world, see many different countries and it’s also not realistic for me right now financially and working full-time so I have to start somewhere. I commit to seeing a minimum of 1 new country a year. I might not see every single place but I will still feel accomplished. Start somewhere, and start with what is most important to YOU!

 

  1. What is your first action step?

Now that you have clarity on what is top priority for you, you can start taking the action steps to get there. This is my favourite example for how I break down my goals. For years, I always said I wanted to give back to my mom. I had this idea that I wanted to treat her to a trip to where she and my family is from, Portugal. There were many barriers, so I thought. The biggest, money. Second, I’m too young to accomplish that. So I put it on my “one day list”. A mentor of mine knew this was a goal of mine and she asked me one simple question. Have you checked how much flights would cost? Truth is, I never did. That was my task, find out how much flights would cost. So I did and immediately I said, “THIS IS POSSIBLE”!

Whenever a goal seems so far out of reach I simple come back to what is the one action step I need to take to just start and that is exactly where I begin. Taking a step forward is taking a step forward, it’s better than standing still and not doing anything.

 

  1. Am I being productive?

This has been and still is a big struggle for me. Long list of things to do and yet are they even in alignment or getting me closer to what I want? As long as I’m trying different things they are all getting me closer and closer to what I want. Is spending 2-3 hours watching my favourite show getting my closer to my goal, probably not. Give yourself breaks, and time to recharge your batteries. Just be aware of how you spend each hour of your day. We all have the same 24 hours in a day. And if you work full-time like me that’s 7-8 hours of your day committed to something other than your goal so your evenings are crucial. And I absolutely can understand that our circumstances are all different so you may be working full-time, and come home and have kids to look after. Whether you have 5 hours of 1 hour of time that you can dedicate to your goal, you have got to be disciplined.

 

  1. Does my environment support my dreams?

For the last few years, I’ve become more and more aware of how important my environment is. From the people you surround yourself with to what you are feeding your brain with what you watch and read. If what you want is so important to you it is easier to change your environment. This is where sacrifices come to the forefront. You are going to have to say no to a lot of people, and a lot of things. You are going to have to give up some weekends. At the end of the day, you have to ask yourself how bad to you want that goal of yours.

Don’t give up. Be gentle with yourself and continue to say yes to your dreams. Everything you desire is possible!

  1. I have had my share of accomplishments in life but many times doubt as well. It took me a while to overcome my low self esteem. Actually I still have some work to do on that one. I find that in business and life I continue to move forward. I love the fact you want to help others as my life has been used for that purpose. Thanks for the article, blessings.
